The Barrington Concours d’Elegance, Legends & Legacies, is organized and hosted by two important Barrington-area charities: Barrington Area Conservation Trust and Hospice of Northeastern Illinois. One hundred percent of the net proceeds from this event are split evenly between these two charities.

Barrington Area Conservation Trust

Barrington Area Conservation Trust was founded in 2001 to help preserve the open land, the rural character, and the scenic, historic, recreational, and ecologically significant resources of the Barrington area.

With tools including conservation easements and land-acquisition programs, BACTrust works with private landowners to protect critical lands in emerging growth areas within the region. The organization works closely with Barrington-area village governments and developers to assist with positive development programs to protect and preserve the unique qualities of our community.

Barrington Area Conservation Trust holds the largest private conservation easement in the state of Illinois on the 420-acre Horizon Farms property at Sutton and Algonquin Roads in Barrington Hills.“The Barrington area’s combination of forest preserves and large private properties makes it one of the most important natural resource regions in the Chicago area,” says Mary Bradford-White, the organization’s president. “That’s why it’s critical that we protect as much of the land as possible—and our window to do this before developers change the landscape forever is just five to seven years.”

Hospice of Northeastern Illinois

Barrington-based Hospice of Northeastern Illinois was founded in 1982 by a small group of volunteers dedicated to the hospice philosophy of caring for terminally ill individuals in their homes.

The organization merged with Hospice for McHenry County in Woodstock in 1989 and has expanded its reach to include patients and families in a six-county area in suburban Chicago. Through the support of the community, Hospice provides end-of-life care for adults and children, bereavement for families, integrative therapies such as massage, art therapy, pet therapy, and community and professional education. Hospice of Northeastern Illinois is also one of a few hospices in Illinois to provide pediatric palliative and hospice services. The organization is rooted in the community, with more than 8,000 donors contributing $2.5 million annually and more than 300 volunteers donating nearly 15,000 hours of time.

“Hospice of Northeastern Illinois serves a critical need in the Barrington area and in all the communities we serve,” says Dee Beaubien, chair of the board of directors. “So many families are faced with difficult decisions at the end of a loved one’s life, and we are here to provide assistance and help these families understand their choices.”
